We are MAD, Making A Difference. It´s a project between Spain, the Netherlands and Norway. During this project we did several things related to the European Union. The aim of this project was to find a solution for the refugee problem.
At the beginning of this project the people that participated in it had to search for information about refugees in different countries in the European Union. When the Dutch people arrived here, the information was discussed here in groups and proposals were made. When all the proposals were told, there was a debate about them. There were many different opinions among the students and this made it very hard to come to one final solution. But in the end we managed somehow to combine the information and opinions into one solution everyone agreed with.
With this project we were shown different kinds of organisations, who try to help refugees. One of which is called IWC Asturias, International WoMen´s Club Asturias. An Austrialian woman called Anna-Lisse told something about this organisation. She told us that it was a small organisation that had just started a year ago and that they are trying to help refugees by providing clothes, food, medical supplies, etc. They are increasingly growing, since more people are joining them.
We also had the opportunity to listen to Javier Gómez who talked about Hospitalidad. It´s an organisation that is carried out by Jesuits. He explained the objective of the organisation, which was to help refugees and people in need. They don´t necessarily want to give material things to them, but rather try to change their mindset, hearts and way of living.
The third organisation shown to us, called “Brazos Abiertos” , helps refugees on sea. They have firemen, lifeguard and more to help the refugees who are dangerously crossing the sea in Lesbos.
Aside from the debates about refugees and the academic work, we also spent a lot of free time with the others and had much fun together in Gijón.
